Chef Amadeo Cacho or more fondly called Chef Deo by his students is a veteran Chef with over 3 decades of experience under his belt. Starting his culinary journey with working in the kitchens of various restaurants and hotels across the country, his talent was discovered by a German national who invited him to consider a career in the shipping industry. Accepting the offer with enthusiasm, he was then sent to Leer, Germany where his profession is about to take new shape. A pioneer of the Culinary Training Program onboard the naval training vessel MV Emsstrom, here Chef Deo was taught a curriculum that encompassed mostly Eastern European cuisines. After successfully graduating from the said program, he then started his career as a Chef onboard merchant vessels.

 

Armed with the knowledge and skills Chef Deo ventured into practicing his craft, serving high ranking officers onboard as well a crew of mixed nationalities, bringing with him the standards of fine cuisines and the loving care of a Filipino heart. Regarded across the fleet as a living legend, Chef Deo’s passion for cooking is remarkable, further making his mark by eventually retiring from being an active seafarer after over a decade and transitioning into one of UMTC’s most prized Instructors, imparting the same high standards to young students with dreams of becoming “him” one day.
